ElectricFieldΒΆ

Type:section
Appearance:multiple

This section is used to import a tensor field from a JCM-fieldbag generated in a preceding linear simulation. It is required that the fieldbag contains a tensor field definition of the type ElectricFieldStrength. A single ElectricField is interpreted to generate higher harmonics according to the rank of the NonLinearSusceptibility. Multiple different ElectricField sections can be defined and are used to construct the NonLinearPolarization. For the case of the second-order nonlinear processes (SHG, SFG), NonLinearPolarization \TField{p}^{(2)} reads:

\begin{alignat*}{1}
\TField{p}^{(2)}_i & = \epsilon_0 \sum_{j,k} \chi_{ijk}\TField{E}_{j}^{1}\TField{E}_{k}^{2}
\end{alignat*}

The Conjugate option can be used to conjugate the corresponding electric field and change the sign of the frequency \omega \Rightarrow -\omega. This is useful, for example, when computing processes such as difference-frequency generation (DFG), where the NonLinearPolarization is defined as:

\begin{alignat*}{1}
\TField{p}^{(2)}_i & = \epsilon_0 \sum_{j,k} \chi_{ijk}\TField{E}_{j}^{1}\TField{E}_{k}^{2*}
\end{alignat*}
